Sunday, Sunday

We had a great service at church today. Yes, fellow bloggers, ol’ non-believing Lucy goes to church. Every Sunday. I’m even a Sunday school teacher. Believe it or not.

Anyways as I was sayin’, or writing actually, the service today was wonderful. Stirring. It was back-to-church Sunday, like that. Start of the new church year.

We ended by singing Lean on Me. Of course, you need to remember that we are Unitarians. Unitarians can sing whatever they want to in church. We don’t even have to go to church. God trusts us. Some people need to attend church regularly so that they can be told to shape up, and that God is watching them, and stuff like that. Maybe threatened, and so on. I’m an atheist so I don’t need the promise of heaven, or the threat of hell. I just try to be a good person for the hell of it. Works for me, and of course everyone else does what works for them, and that’s what you call a Good Thing.

Anyway, I’m all in a good mood now because of the service and also because of this song. Lean On Me

“Sometime in our lives we all have pain, we all have sorrow
But if we are wise we know that there’s always tomorrow.

Lean on me when you’re not strong and I’ll be your friend,
I’ll help you carry on,
For it won’t be long ‘til I’m gonna need somebody to lean on.”

‘Course there’s more to the song, and if you remember the tune to this one, you could sing along. But I know from my last post and the comments on it, that most of you are NOT singing along. Too bad. I was gonna put out a CD called the “Singing Bloggers.”
But Noooooooo.
So little cooperation.
It was kinda pitiful that way. Just pitiful.

And I sang last time, too! What's the royalty deal on Singing Bloggers? Oh, and I need my own dressing room. xoxo

This is awesome!! We sing modern stuff from time-to-time at church, but it's still modern Christian music. I'm not sure "Lean on Me" was written to have that meanting, although I suppose it's all in the interpretation. You must have a great pastor!

I'm singing, I'm singing and I've heard that song in Methodist Churches so there.

(With feeling but no pitch)
"Lean on me-
When you're not strong
I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on"

That is one of the most stirring songs ever.

KristieD and Mireille - Good for you two! The world stands out on either side for those who sing! In fact, how do people keep from singing?

Mireille-guess I'll just divide all the great royalties up 'twix those who sing out. Of course YOU get your own dressing room. You don't think I'd make a class act like you share do you?

WordWhiz and Doug you snuck by me there!

WW, Yes we do have a great pastor. Not that we'd let a minister stop us anyway!

Okay, Doug, you've heard it in a Methodist church. I bet it was in California. So it doesn't count. Everyone knows about California. *aside: pagons*
But your pitch is fine, and we need your deep voice.

lucy-great post! made me feel good to read it! BTW, i also want my own dressing room, with boxes & boxes of twinkies & ho-ho's?
BoUnCeS!! LibbY!

ok, I'll share with Libby, if I get to share her twinkies and hohos. I'm flexible. xoxo

Now I've got that song in my head, but that's okay because I love it.

Arrgh! I now have that song lodged in my brain. :P

But if you're an atheist, why do you say that "God TRUSTS us"? Or do you just mean that facetiously (without meaning that there's a god)? Or are you agnostic and not atheistic?

It's no big deal either way, but I am an endlessly curious person. If you choose to assuage my curiousity, please do! If not, that's fine too. I just love your blog, as always.

Thank you LiBbY and Mireilli for your cooperation. So the two of you will share a dressing room. BIG one of course, since you asked early and up front. HoHos and Twinkies for all. No prob there. I'm into good solid chocolate. I won't bother your cache of goodies.

Meegan, you're singing right? Any demands?

Saur: I'm an atheist. No doubts. (Which is always, of course, a sign of serious stupidity). I like to say "God trusts us." It's irony.

Harumph! At our church we have even sung some Norah Jones and Beatles stuff! So there!

I like the Rolling Stones version of the song better. You should sing that next week in church.

It is called "bleed on me"

Oh - I was singing along! In fact I finished the song! It's a good song.

The song is my head too- but that's okay, I like it. Hoss's post had 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport' in my head for nearly 12 hours.

Good song to be singing in church! That is such an emotional song, it can borderline make you teary-eyed. However I'm going to go to church with Kenju if they are singing Norah Jones.
I will be a member of the singing group also but will require at least two solos per concert. I will also expect to be supplied with twizlers

You have definitely needed others to lean on during your grief and hardest times. I have to. We "pitiful" people kind of need each other. I'm thankful for my loved ones and friends. They make my world brighter.

Kenju- We've done the Beatles many times, but I *bow* on Norah Jones. But we did "Lean On Me," standing, clapping, swaying, feeling not so middle-class, white, restrained -- the way we really are.

Lazy - LOL

Hale McKay Good job. We need some male voices.

Still Life - Such a diva! But okay. Your voice is lovely and two solos it is. I'm good for the twizlers.

Jamie - Yes, indeed. I've done some leaning, and will surely do more. Plus I have shoulders for others to cry on.

Haw, TLP. No it was an African Methodist Church in Bloomington, Indiana. Lots O' believers. By the way, we're on the same page on Californians. You might like to go back to the golden age of my site (March 3.)

Sing as much as the ya want, my friend...I too, now have that tune stuck inside my good ol' head...

Sar said...

What an adorable picture, perfect for the theme. I'm singing along in my head, which I suspect I'll be doing all day.

Tom & Icy said...

That church sounds interesting. You sound like a good singer in writing.

TLP said...

Oh, goodie! We need Icy. Tom you can come too.

Sar, Barbara, you're offically on the posters advertising the CD. Doug's in of course. Even if he drones.

So, I think we're set.

Since I'm not a regular at church on Sundays, I'll sing this and hope someone up there hears me.

Love that song!

We are Unitarian Universalists and go to church regularly. I'm an athiest and my husband is a liberal Christian, and both of those things are just fine there. "Morning has Broken" is a popular song in our church. Now THAT one will stick in your head! Sometimes there's a Beatle song, and we've sung blowin' in the Wind a few times. Most of the songs they sing have god mentioned in them somewhere, so I just hum through those parts. heh heh... ;-) The choir is awesome too, they do everything from classical to African tribal pieces.

I love singing. For a year, I sang in a choir. We performed Brahms' German Requiem on my birthday, in 1970, in the wonderful Tewkesbury Abbey (the largest Norman abbey in England). It was unforgettable.

I looked for a choir here, but I couldn't find one. Maybe, one day, when I live in a small town again. Hmm... probably never. :-(
