What does the well-dressed sick person wear? We've been in our pajamas so long that we're wearing them out. Right now I'm wearing vertical blue/darkblue/white striped pj pants, a horizonally striped blue/navy/lavendar/white top, and over it all a yellow-green/pink striped cartigan. Oh, I forgot to mention the blue slippers which have a multi-color plaid trim. I'm stylin'. Niks is in mismatched pjs. We look marvelous! If you can't feel good, you might as well look good. Posted by Hello

It's like losing an old friend. My crossword puzzle dictionary has fallen apart. It's actually in more than two pieces. Sigh. I'll have to get Lucinda Sans to order one for me. I've resisted getting a new one because I have all these notes in the one that I have. All kinds of things like "Iva Toguri" is Tokyo Rose. Did you know that? And I have some Simpsons charactors listed like, Moe Slyzak, and Jimbo, Dolph, and the voice of Margie is done by Julie Kavner. These things come up in the Times Crossword Puzzle. Some things I have finally learned, like the first name of architect Saarinen is Eero, but I'll transfer that bit of information to any new dictionary I get anyway. You never know how long it will be before it comes up again, and I may forget it. I also have listed some famous horses in the back of my current book, such as Alexander the Great's horse was Bucephalus, and Tex Ritter's horse was Whiteflash. Those could be puzzle answers at any time. I also have noted that the last word in the Scrabble dictionary is "Zyzzyva." I could just look in the Scrabble book, but it's easier to just have the one book with me most of the time. Note: Now, whyever does the Scrabble dictionary need a word with so many "z's" when the game has only one "z" ? Yes, you can use the blanks as any letter, but this is very far fetched.
I'll try to be neater in my new book, but that will fail after a while. I'll start jotting answers here and there, hoping I can find them when I need them. I really love this old book. Posted by Hello

We got a very lovely snow yesterday. I imagine that most kids got part of the day off. The streets are mostly clear I believe, and our "snow guys" have come and gone. We are SO lucky to have dependable folks to do the snow and the yard. We can enjoy snow when it falls without bothering our children or trying to shovel it ourselves. In further developing news, I think we are both a little better today. It's slow but we're getting over this. Posted by Hello

This is now a health site. Or more exactly, an unhealthy site. Niks now has pneumonia. Poor guy. But I'm feeling as if I am getting better. Tomorrow will be a snow day anyway.  Posted by Hello

Sick of being sick

I'm sick of being sick. I'm sick of Niks being sick too. Can an atheist ask for/expect a little help here? I admit that it's a bit (!) hypocritical, and that recently I have said that I disliked being two-faced, but a need a miracle here. I guess that's a bit melodramtic. Posted by Hello

Today, February 20, is Hoodie Hoo Day. So stick your head out the door at noon, and shout out HOODIE HOO! Posted by Hello

Oh woe is me! I've been nursing Niks for a week, and finally I'm sick with this horrible thing. It's more than a cold I think because we have fever and are very weak. Bummer.  Posted by Hello

Went to a dinner party tonight. Had to leave Niks at home since he has a bad, bad cold. It was an enjoyable evening. Good conversation, good food. I made two pies: one cherry and one apple. Well, actually I made three. I made a cherry pie for Niks to have here at home. He loves homemade cherry pie. Tomorrow I have to teach Church School, and then fill in for Niks after church for a task, since he's sick.  Posted by Hello

The doctor called to say that things are looking good for the brainy old guy! She (doctor) saved him 5 years ago from lung cancer, and we trust her. The PET shows no cancer. She cautions that there are false negatives, but we are very encouraged. Not sure yet what lies ahead for the kidney tumors. Maybe just keep watching them. Beats losing the kidney prematurely.  Posted by Hello

I took Niks Brainy Smurf Pez for a PET today. He's said that it's totally painless and easy. We will know the result on Feb. 22. Posted by Hello

Kiddie A has a role in Li'l Abner in the school play. She's also in the chorus for it. She's bound to be good. She's a cutie. Posted by Hello

I got to pick up kiddie B after school today. We went to the local coffee shop for refreshment and good conversation. I'm a lucky woman. What a sweet, smart, pretty girl she is.  Posted by Hello

Ouch! My funny Valentine, sweet comic Valentine, why the heck are you doing this to me? Valentine's Cards of old can be weird, for sure. Posted by Hello

Valentine's Day

Some Valentine's are just weird! Another V-day, come and gone. Sigh

The Empress Card

The Empress Card
You are the Empress card. The Empress is the
archetype of the Mother. She creates and
nurtures life. She represents the abundance of
Mother Earth. The Empress is capable of using
nature in a productive way. She espouses art
for art's sake. Her planet is Venus, and she
embodies love of beauty and a strong value
system. Here is also found initial sensation.
This is the first really physical experience of
the world that The Fool has entered. The
Empress has a rich understanding of the world
based on her five senses. In a reading, The
Empress represents pregnancy, actual or
metaphorical. She indicates an act of creation
and a sensual experience of beauty. The Empress
is a nurturing force that wishes to see the
product of her experiences reach the next stage
of development. Image from A Photographic Tarot

Fun Game

This fun game looks simple. It is simple for the first few levels. Then it finally gets harder. Or maybe that's just me.

Oh NO! Glasses! Posted by Hello

I'm offically old...I've got glasses

Yesterday I picked up my new glasses...reading glasses. The lens maker talked me into bifocals. That way I can do the crossword puzzle and watch TV at the same time...NOT! I hate them. They are progressives. You can't see the line. In fact, I'm having trouble seeing anything. Sigh.
They say that I will "get used to them." But I'm already "used to" holding the paper in just the correct spot to read everything just fine. These glasses make me dizzy. Plus they make me OLD.

Lent is upon us

I've decided to give up something for Lent: being so fat.

Monday, February 07, 2005

I'm fatter than ever! arrrrrgh

How did I get this fat? What can I do about it? Well, other than excerise and have my jaws wired shut?
