Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to all these folks, dead or alive:

Ben Stiller
Billy Idol
David Mamet
Abbie Hoffman
Dick Clark
Shirley Chisholm
Efrem Zimbalist Jr
Sir Winston Churchill
Mark Twain
Jonathan Swift
Tan Lucy Pez

I'm older'n dirt, but glad to be here! Life may be hard, but it's even worse when you're not here.

I've got the droop thang goin' on. But I'm in shape. Round's a shape. My idea of weight lifting is standing up and it takes me longer to rest than it did to get tired. But of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Still, I don't suffer from stress. I'm a carrier.

Do you realize that a postage stamp costs more than movie did when I was a kid? No joke! When I was a kid, it cost me 11 cents to go to a movie.

I may be old, but I refuse to die until I get some answers:

Is an unbreakable toy useful for breaking other toys?
If one synchronized swimmer drowns, do the rest have to drown too?
If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?
If work is so terrific, how come they have to pay you to do it?
If you're born again, do you have two bellybuttons?
If you ate pasta and antipasto, would you still be hungry?
If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?
Why are hemorrhoids called "hemorrhoids" instead of "asteroids"?
Why is it called tourist season if you can't shoot at them?
Why is the alphabet in that order? Is it because of that song?

You guys are young and smart. Check this sh*t out and get back to me.

Hunting season is upon us

It's almost time for the biggest deer-hunting season in PA. There are several deer seasons here, but this is the big one. You can shoot both antlered and unantlered deer starting this coming Monday.

It ain't safe to be in the woods! So don't go hiking. Half, or probably more, of those guys who are out there in hunting camps armed with guns, are just there for the booze. So. They are drunk and armed.

This is a guy who lost his license for drunk driving, but he's still got a gun and he's still drunk. Be warned.

Just sayin'.

For the expanding grandeur of Creation, worlds known and unknown, galaxies beyond galaxies, filling us with awe and challenging our imaginations: We give thanks this day.

For this fragile planet earth, its times and tides, its sunsets and seasons: We give thanks this day.

For the joy of human life, its wonders and surprises, its hopes and achievements: We give thanks this day.

For our human community, our common past and future hope, our oneness transcending all separation, our capacity to work for peace and justice in the midst of hostility and oppression: We give thanks this day.

For high hopes and noble causes, for faith without fanaticism, for understanding of views not shared: We give thanks this day.

For all who have labored and suffered for a fairer world, who have lived so that others might live in dignity and freedom: We give thanks this day.

For human liberty and sacred rites; for opportunities to change and grow, to affirm and choose: We give thanks this day. We pray that we may live not by our fears but by our hopes, not by our words but by our deeds.

No, it's not Christmas yet

Anyone just waking up from a long Rip-van-Winkle sleep would think that they had missed Thanksgiving. The stores are of course full of Christmas decorations now.

But there's still time to have a great Thanksgiving folks, and I hope you do!

'Course, if you're a turkey, I guess it's not so great. I mean a real turkey. You turkeys!

Actually, I've heard that Indians Native Americans don't like Thanksgiving any better than turkeys do.

Have a perfectly delicious dinner on t-day, y'all.

I hope you don't have to do it all yourself.

Rainy day in PA

We're having a rainy day here. We need it.

I didn't take this picture of a cardinal, but we do have cardinals in the evergreens that line our back yard. They nest there every year, and they stay all winter too.

Hope the weather is just the way you like it where you are.

Happy Birthday Douglas

Wordsmith: A good writer. A person who, without changing the meaning, rewrites a work to make it better. An articulate person.

Happy birthday to Doug the dawg.

This belly dancer was tryin' like heck to get Doug's attention. All she got was my husband Niks' eye. That Doug.
Come to think of it: that Niks!

One Vote

It's election day here. My town's population is estimated to be 7,414. We're very much like one another. 95.4% of our population is White-Non-Hispanic. We have fewer than one thousand children in grades K-12. What would we fight about in a school board election?

One of our residents has donated 15 million dollars for an "arts center." There are strings attached. The center has to be located at a particular site, for one. According to the paper, our town is 2 miles square. You'd think we could agree on a place.

Fat chance.

I for one don't even want her money. I'm sick of the whole mess.

I hope my one vote counts in this election, as much as her 15 million dollars does.

November Rabbit Rabbit

It can't be November! Where did October go? Where did the YEAR go?

You know the drill: Rabbit Rabbit.

Speaking of October, and we were, weren't we? I heard on the news that we just had the warmest October on record. Warmest EVER. No surprise there. It's been a very, very warm autumn here.

Good luck in November y'all.
