Trash talk

Radio question of the day:

Sixty percent of us have never participated in this holiday tradition. What is it?

***********************************************************************
I took our tree down today. It's a permanent tree, so it's in the basement now, stored away.

But for all those real trees, what once was so lovely and loved, is now out by the curb. All over our little borough Christmas trees have been set out to the trash. Sad.

A special truck will pick them up and take them to be composted. That's good I guess.
Still, it's sad to me.

Answer to radio question of the day:
Roasting chestnuts

I've never done that. Have you?

We took our little tree out to the curb this morning, too. It is sad.

I actually have roasted chestnuts. It all started when I was in London around Christmas time about 15 years ago with my friend James. There were chestnut carts all over the city and everytime I saw one I started singing that song...you know the one. It drove James freakin' MAD.

Anyway, when I got home to the states, I tried it. Not bad in the oven, though I bet an open fire is still the best way to go.

Aunt Doris and Uncle Mike took me to a Dickens festival in the Bay area years ago and I tried roasted chestnuts. Didn't care for them.

Some year I'd like to get a tree and plant it.

I've always wondered how men react to the idea of chestnuts roasting over an open fire. *cringe*

Our neighbor put their tree out to the curb today. It broke my heart. The poor thing's life was literally cut short to provide a week of visual pleasure. :(

I had roasted chestnuts, never made them myself though.
I have a permanent tree as well, can´t stand the sight of old Christmas tree on the side of the street. It takes a tree such a long time to grow to that hight and we cut it down for a week of delight.
Just sad!

I tried that once, and they tasted like crap. I may have done something wrong, however. Or chosen rotten chestnuts.

I buy them on the street from the vendor carts but have never tried for myself.
However when I was small I remember
popping popcorn by the fire!

I've eaten roasted chestnuts, and they aren't very good.
I'd rather roast marshmallows. Yummy!

Roasted chestnuts are nice for keeping your hands warm in winter. I'm not very fond of them: too floury.

I've had roasted chestnuts and have tried to make them on my own, but I don't remember that turning out so well.

I have done that. And I guessed right. So, I guess today I'm smart and experienced. Feels good.

My tree is permanent as well, but its still up...(hee hee, not much time this last weekend to take it down), but my parents had a HUGE real tree. (Ever since the hurricane took out some of our trees and we have firewood)...We have a new tradtion that on new years eve, we cut up the tree and burn it. My dad gets very drunk and talks about how its letting the spirit of past christmas go and in return we will have a good year and an even better next christmas...or something like that. He gets funny like that sometimes when he drinks :)

btw- never had roasted chestnuts either

I find it hard to believe that 40% of us HAVE roasted chestnuts! Who knew?

Our tree is still up. Everything else is down. I would've taken the tree down by now too, but Me Wonder Woman Pez and Aved Princess Leia Pez balked.

I don't have a fire or chestnuts, so I just dip almonds in the melted chocolate.

Chesnuts must be an aquired taste I think, and they are awful the next day.

I have a permanent tree too. I love putting all the deco up the first week of December but then I'm really ready for everything to come down on the 26th. I try to get it all packed away before Jan 1. The house always seems so bare and sad though...

It is sad to see all the trees by the curb. It's like there they are....all dead now and unloved.

Was kinda sad seeing the carcasses of all those inflatable Santas lying in people's lawns, too. Most of them seem to have been dragged away now, though.
