Touring

A friend of mine from Utah is coming tomorrow morning, and so I'll be taking her to see things that she thinks she will enjoy.

We're going to Philly to tour the usual stuff since she hasn't seen any of that. She also wants to see the King Tut exhibit, and so do I. She's more than a *touch unusual, and will not let me make a reservation for the Tut exhibit. That Bindy. You might say that she IS *touched. 'Course I would never say that. Her idea is that we will just go and get whatever time we can. Generally you have a reservation for a particular time.

This is a small issue and I won't fight it. If we can't get into the exhibit, oh, well.... I can go back another time.

She wants to see the Amish Country, and nothing could be easier. Unless of course you're with Bindy. It would be SO logical to go to the Lancaster area, see the Amish (nothing touristy for her however, read: NO SHOPPING.) and then drive to Philly and spend the night. But she's into sleeping in the cheapest way you can. Read: IN HER VAN.

I don't sleep in vans. Or on the ground. Or in sleazebag hotels. I am happy, happy, happy to pay for the hotel, but she's not into letting me spend money either.

So, we'll see the Amish, come back home, and then go the next day to Philadelphia. I will drive my car with the excuse that I know the way, and I have a hybrid and she has a van which obviously uses more gas. Since she sleeps in it, and she drove cross country using it as a tent, it does save her money.

Another reason for my driving instead of her driving is that she will not use a toll road. Not ever. Never. No how, no way. It's the principle and the money. I'm shaking my head as I type that. I'm sure she wastes more gas money avoiding toll roads than she saves. She's very stubborn.

She's a good person, and she means well, and she has come across country to see me again. So I'll do the best I can to amuse her. And yes, I will even spend three hours on this coming Sunday in a Mormon church with her.

Pray for me.

Your friend sounds like loads of unique fun.

d'oh! so, despite your, um best efforts to put her off a bit longer, you've allowed Bindy to "findu" again? heh heh, my friend, you are a glutton for "company" punishment! ; ) xox

(just remembering that hilarious post you did back in October, when Bindy last came to visit)

Have a wonderful time. I have never been to Philadelphia although the city is on my list of places to visit.

My prayers are with you. Three hours? my the Mormons are devout.

What a nice way to phrase that, Goldennib. I'll just be borrowing that.

Neva, Yep. That's her! You have a good memory. She has a new van and I haven't been able to track her on this trip. WOE! I want to be sure to see her on the way OUT.

Mjd, Philly can be a ton of fun. More fun sometimes than others. The 3 hours of church service are divided: one hr. service, one hr. mixed male and female Sunday school, one hour separate male and female classes. And yes, Bindy is one of the most devout LDS on earth. I'd hate to see anyone more MORMON.

Her perameters are rather small, aren't they? Won't ever take a TOLL ROAD???? Like, howlong did it take her to drive cross country? (lol)

I AM ON MY KNEES, right now, as I write this, dear TLP!

Can't wait to hear what happens at King Tut...Let alone the Amish Country....Good Luck, my dear. YOU are a Good Friend.

Yeah, Acton, she refuses to take toll roads. I'll tell you some tales on that on the 17th. I don't want folks to think I post regularly, but I can post often, but irregularly, right?

Old Hill Lady, even Bindy admits that it's a pain to avoid the toll roads. When she leaves here, she's going to the big Mormon pageant in Palmyra NY. Just look at a map and try to figure out getting back to Utah from there without using toll roads. This is not a Mormon "thing." This is a Bindy thing. Actually I befriend her because I love her mother, and her mother loves me, and this is a gift from me to the mother.

tlp-for some reason, bindy sounds like a lot of fun to me....perhaps i've missed something in an old post? but, i hafta say i'm with her on toll roads...others are much more interesting...if you have the time & the gas $$!

I think you've written about Bindy before. Yes?

Enjoy your time together.

Libby, you would last about 5 minutes with her. You can't belch, fart, or say f*ck in front of her. Her general idea of a good time is to go to one of the temple. She's as sincere as they come, so I don't fault her for that.

Lucy! Nice to see you. Yes, she was here last Oct. and I wrote a little about her on a couple of posts. She's MORMON. First, second, third,...and so on.

Cripes. Bindy is pretty much all of my friends. And she's "touched"?

That clarifies my relationships, for sure.

I didn't know Steve Irwin's daughter was a Mormon.

**** this is Boo on her knees, praying for Lucy, that's why my knees are dirty****

That King Tut! I'm being buried in a sarcophagus of coke cans to save money. And instead of a pyramid, I thought you could just tie the whole thing to the roof of my van in case I need to get something.

tlp-haha! i'd last maybe 2 minutes before i gave one of my world-shaking burps! then i'm guessing i'd never see her again...i was gonna invite you here to bring her, but maybe you better not!
anyway, got more house pictures on the blog today...

Hi Lucy, now don't go knocking that sleepin' in the van thing, on lots of my trips there is nowhere convenient or acceptable to stay overnight so the reclined seat/bed happens.
Now as my bones become less enamored with this practice I'm thinking of buying a van C/W a bed, I have a sign planned for the van that says;
Don’t laugh, your Daughter.. Mother.. Grandmother may be inside.
(with Daughter & Mother crossed out)
I couldn't post the comment with the cross outs for some reason.

I went through "Amish country" upon leaving Philly, and it was nice-nice farmland. One house we stopped at had sensational quilts, one of which we bought, naturally. Didn't see any toll roads, though.

Is that a "Union Flag" I see on the right in the picture? So it's true then. You lot in the Colonies really miss us (and our guiding hand) in Great Bitain since you became independant and tried to make a go of it on your own.

Alright, I'm going ........

I'm really into the Amish and have visited Lancaster County many times. Hope you had a good time with her.

This rings a bell. Recently i have discovered a couple of old friends have got as mean as hell - over the years as far as spending money is concerned. Don't they know we can't take it with us?

I hope you had a lovely visit with your friend.

Just checking bsck to see how this visit went and if you got through it okay...! Maybe you are "in recvery" (lol), at the moment...
Anyway, I hope it ALL went really well, dear TLP

Sounds, er, unusual. All of it.

I have in my possession a letter, dated summer 1966, welcoming me to the University of Utah, where I was going to read Psychology. I never made it: my father didn't let me go. My life would certainly have been different had I been able to go. Don't think I would have become a Mormon, though.

Have fun with Bindy! :-)

OOOOOOOOOOOOO
I remember Bindy!
Good times, good times.
You will even go to church with her? You are a good person, Lucy. I wouldn't do a three hour service for anyone!
