Talking trash

Radio question of the day:

One in 25 dads do this, and aren’t aware of it…what is it?

******************************************************

Lainey tagged me to write six weird facts/things about myself on my blog, and in her comments section, and then to tag six more people. You guys! Relax. I don’t tag folks. But I’ll do the tag for her. I’m sure I’ve been tagged with this before, but I’ve got weird stuff to spare, so I’ll do it again.

1. Right now it is raining hard. It’s blowing against the windows in the room that I’m in. We need this rain. I like rain okay. But I’m very agitated right now because I just washed the windows and rain makes them dirty. Is that weird or what?

2. I eat ice. Lots of it. I love ice.

3. Apparently I’m a cleaning freak. Frankly, my house never seems clean to me. But other people think I’m a cleaning freak.

4. I have a system for “disappearing” my husband’s old stuff. First I pack it away in a spot that I can get to quickly if he asks about it. After it has been packed there for at least six months, I store it in a more remote location in the house. (We have a full basement and a full attic. When people in this area say that they have a “full basement” or a “full attic,” they mean that the basement area and/or attic area is as large as the house is wide and deep.) After it has been in the harder-to-get-to location for a while, it just disappears. Poof. Out to the trash. Or in some cases, out to daughter 3D’s trash. Like a complete set of old encyclopedias. That was too obvious to set out to our curb. And no, he never missed it, but never, ever would have agreed to throw it away. Have you tried donating old encyclopedias? Don’t bother. The Goodwill, et al, will not accept them.

5. I walk for exercise, but try to park as closely as possible to the entry to a store, or mall. Why? Doesn’t make sense. I should park a distance away and therefore get more exercise. I’m working on this.

6. I love the television show, Monk. The weird part of that is, I am a little, teensy tiny bit like Monk. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Answer to the radio question of the day:

Raise someone else’s kid.

Whoo boy! Why did Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes pop into my head just now? I’m sure that Tommy can father children...

Bookworm likes to chomp ice, too. I wondered where she got it from.

a LITTLE like Monk? HA! He learned how to clean FROM YOU!!

And I love your "disappearing" stories. (remember that box of stuff from his old roommate that I tracked down 30 year later?)

Only one in 25? it seems like it would be more. And you know, I share a teensy bit of your weirdnesses with you - except the disappearing stuff, since i don't have a husband. I used to have two husbands, not at the same time, mind you, they were separated by about 10 years in between #1 and #2. I disappeared them. husbands - 0 me - 0 ! it's known as a win-win deal. (maybe)

ooohhh chomping on ice nooooo!!!
I can't even WATCH people chew ice, it will take me days to warm up.

I'm so weird that I could never even reach into a freezer or hold a frosted mug! AND if attending a gathering where drinks were submerged in barrels of ice, I would ask someone to reach in and get something for me!

I forever think of you when watching Monk. ;-)

I 'disappear' things too. Always did it when my children were small too. And I am also a very recent fan of Monk.

I've never watched Monk. Maybe I'll check it out.

You are funny with Niks Brainy Smurf Pez's stuff! I don't blame you, though.

We love Monk, too, but I'm afraid he would be horrified in our house. So, I guess you would be, too? Everything is sanitary enough, usually, but it's cluttery and out of control...

I, too, am a bit concerned for Tom and Katie's baby...

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for playing along TLP.

I'm gonna try the 'disappearing' thing on my husband (and with good reason, I might add) like schnoodlepooh did.

Is it true you used to be an accountant?

That's the best cartoon of all-time, I think. The only one that comes close is one a friend clipped from the New Yorker in the mid-90s. That one showed a brontosaurus telling a triceratops "Under 'Occupation' I usually just put 'roam the Earth.'"

The worrying thing for baby Cruise is not so much who her father is but who will be raising her/him, (can't remember which) that's assuming Katie can stick Tom out??

Boy did your radio question hit home with me today! I have a friend who found out that he was the REAL father of a 14 year old. Up till then, he knew the parents (and had a relationship with the wife prior to their marriage which everyone knew about) but what everyone (including the supposed "dad") didn't know was that the daughter was really my friend's! It all came out during the divorce when she went after him for child support.

You aren't so weird! No weirder than the rest of us anyways!

love the question/answer--cracked up at your thoughts of tommy boy & katie's new baby (poor thing...)

loooooooved the cartoon! (i actually laughed out loud!)

and loveloveloved reading "6 weird things" about you. only... these don't seem too weird to me. is that, like, weird? just wondering!

hope ya have a great weekend! : D

I love Monk, occasionally I shoot a little look at Mr. Logo because he shares a couple little things with him.
That poor child, I hardly know what to think. The therapy bills are going to be staggering.

Mimey said...

Yup, it was Tom and Kate who sprang into my mind too.

I'm very fond of ice and will crunch it if I happen to have some laying around, you know in a stranger's glass at a bar, BUT when I was pregnant, OMG, I spent more time freezing thing drinks so I could crunch them than I did fretting about the lack of sleep that was coming.

Which I was told is a symptom of carrying a boy, although I was not. Those old wives!

So I guess you've tried the old "we've had that ____________ hanging around here for months, and I'm tossing it, I don't care what you say."

And it didn't work?

great system ya have for disapearring. but i aint telling mr lime. he may use it on me. thanks for the well wishes lucy. each day is a little better than the last.

I can relate to the rain on the washed windows thing. I don't think that's weird at all. ALL that work and then it RAINS!!

You must be like those anorexic people who think they are fat when they aren't. Your house probably looks like a show place, and you still think it's a mess. You may need some drugs for this, or at least some booze.

Monk is a funny show. I haven't watched it at all this season, so I will have to wait for one of those days when they show a marathon and then tape it.

I let the rain clean my windows. LOL!

I play the disappearing trick on my own stuff. I have 'purgatory', where I put things I'd like to get rid of. If I haven't misseed them for a few months I take them to the charity shop. It works.

"It's a jungle out there!" Love Monk too. :-)

Ok I am gonna comment to number 5. Since nobody has yet.
When you go grocery shopping you have to park your car so close to the entrance, ´cause you come back out with bags to carry. So it is good that the car is near and youc an dump all teh stuff in teh trunk. And excercising both feet and arms at the same time by walking long distances to your car, might be pushing it a litte ;)
I just love the cartoon!

# 3 - I've heard that about you. But considering the alternative -- i think your weird is better.

# 4 - I like that system..it sounds a little like mine.. i have the piles..no rhyme/reason to creating them..but having piles should count for something. As i get older.. the throwing out part gets easier.

Oh --- and have you ever watched the garbage men.... they don't even want this stuff. A good sign it's the right thing to do.

Libby said...

i hope kevin never reads this!! he'd probably 'disappear' half the house!!

Sar said...

I'm just like Still Life when it comes to ice. I have goose bumps just thinking about it now! *shudder*

We watch Monk too! Hubby and I often comment on how Monk would react to things in we encounter. I do appreciate his love for symmetry. Guess that makes me a tad like Monk too. Wish I got the cleaning tad though.

That dog in the cartoon--the one wallowing in filth for his own "benefit" to the horror of onlookers?

That's totally me.

I love that show Monk. And I can kind of relate to him, too in some ways. But my house is not that neat. I want it to be, but I just can't keep up with it.

You've been "talking trash" since Saturday, TLP.
For crying out loud! Give it a rest!

Jamie Dawn is putting in a request for a new post.

I heard TomKat's baby is actually a gift from the Emperor Xenu of the New Galactic Conferderacy.

1 in 25? Really? I would have naively had more confidence in the fidelity of couples.

I'm going to try disappearing some of my husband's junk... sounds like a very sound plan!

Kyahgirl said...

oh, I'm going to borrow your 'disappearing' junk system! I like!!
